How long does it take? Curtains are the finishing touch to complete the decor and one of the last additions to a new or renovated home. We allow three weeks making time dependent on fabric availability. If availability is a problem Quality Curtains often provide a temporary solution.
How Much? This is a little like the old question "How long is a piece of string". If you budget on 2% to 3% of the value of your property you will achieve a finish that will do justice to your home. Spend time thinking about what style and function the curtains and blinds are required to perform. ie warmth, light control, privacy, asthetics.
Early in the building process When you have your plans drawn look at where the drapes can be stacked back off the window and check that there is still room for the wall furniture. (As a rule of thumb allow a minimum of 10% of the window size each side of the window for drapes. ie: two metre window allow 20cm each side.) If you are using a home automation system we can advise your electrician in installing the necessary cabling for motorisation of blinds and drapes.
Linings As a minimum recommendation use a good weight 50/50 polycotton lining as a direct protection for drape fabrics. A 100% polyester lining is very good in humid conditions where condensation is a concern as it is mildew resistant. Thermal linings are useful (as a thermal barrier for temperature control) and blackout linings for total light control.
Tracks Range from $15 - $30 a metre for a strong aluminium powder coated track with a selection of brackets and drawcords. Wood and iron rods including finials start at $40 per metre upwards.
